Today we are launching Soundverter Desktop, a native application for Mac and Windows that brings our entire audio format conversion engine to your local machine. Everything runs on your computer — no audio is uploaded to or processed on our servers. This is the future of Soundverter, and we are excited to share it with you.
devicesWhy We Built a Desktop App
Since launching Soundverter as a web tool, we have heard consistent feedback from DJs, producers, and audio professionals: they wanted a tool that runs locally, keeps their data private, and does not depend on server availability. A desktop application solves all three.
Local processing also means no server-side bottlenecks. Your conversions are limited only by your own hardware and internet connection — not by how many other users are converting at the same time. For users who process large playlists or need conversions on a tight schedule before a gig, this is a significant upgrade.
Privacy First
All audio processing happens on your machine. No tracks are uploaded to or stored on our servers. Your converted files stay on your local drive, under your control.
starKey Features
Soundverter Desktop includes everything from the web version — and more. Here is what you get out of the box:
- Multi-platform support: SoundCloud, Spotify, YouTube Music, and Apple Music
- All formats: MP3 (320kbps), FLAC, WAV, AAC, and M4A
- Full metadata and cover art preservation with ID3v2.4 tags
- Batch playlist processing — convert entire playlists in one click
- Choose your own output folder — files save exactly where you want them
- SoundCloud Go+ OAuth integration for accessing your subscription content
memoryHow Local Processing Works
When you install Soundverter Desktop, a lightweight Python-based conversion engine runs locally on your machine. When you paste a URL and hit Convert, the app fetches the audio stream directly from the source platform to your computer, converts it into your chosen format, injects metadata and cover art, and saves the final file to your selected output folder. No audio data passes through Soundverter servers at any point.
All conversion and metadata injection happens on your hardware. Your files never leave your computer.
Desktop users get their full credit allocation with no web reduction applied.
compare_arrowsWeb vs. Desktop: What Changes
The web version of Soundverter will continue to operate as a preview tool with reduced credits through June 1, 2026. After that date, all conversion processing moves exclusively to the desktop app. Here is what is different:
No Server Processing
The web app processes audio on our servers. The desktop app processes everything locally. This means faster speeds and complete privacy.
Full Credit Allocation
Web credits are currently reduced to 50%. Desktop users get 100% of their subscription credits.
Direct File Access
Choose exactly where your converted files are saved. Integrate directly with your Rekordbox, Serato, or iTunes library folders.
